Greeva Vasti is an Ayurvedic therapeutic procedure that involves retaining warm medicated oil within a specially created reservoir on the neck area for a specific period.
It’s primarily aimed at addressing various neck-related issues such as cervical spondylosis, neck pain, stiffness, and associated discomfort.
Pain Relief: Provides relief from neck pain caused by conditions such as cervical spondylosis, muscle strain, or stiffness.
Muscle Relaxation: Helps to relax the muscles of the neck and shoulder region, reducing tension and promoting flexibility.
Improved Circulation: Enhances blood circulation to the neck area, facilitating the delivery of nutrients and oxygen to the tissues and promoting healing.
Reduced Inflammation: Anti-inflammatory properties of the medicated oils used in Greeva Vasti help to alleviate inflammation and swelling in the neck region.
Enhanced Mobility: Increases the range of motion in the neck, allowing for improved flexibility and ease of movement.
Nourishment of Tissues: Nourishes the tissues of the neck, providing hydration and lubrication to the joints and muscles.
Stress Reduction: Promotes relaxation and relieves mental stress, contributing to overall well-being and vitality.
Prevention of Degenerative Conditions: Regular Greeva Vasti sessions may help prevent the progression of degenerative conditions such as cervical spondylosis or osteoarthritis.
Supports Nervous System: Helps to soothe and calm the nervous system, reducing nerve-related symptoms such as tingling or numbness in the neck and shoulders.
Enhanced Quality of Sleep: Alleviates discomfort and tension in the neck, leading to improved sleep quality and reduced sleep disturbances.
Preparation: The individual is comfortably positioned on a treatment table in a relaxed manner. The therapist ensures that the neck area is accessible and comfortable for the procedure.
Preparation of the Reservoir: A ring-shaped reservoir made of black gram dough is gently placed around the neck area, focusing on the affected region. The dough is molded to create a barrier that prevents the oil from spilling out during the treatment.
Selection of Medicated Oil: The therapist selects specific herbal oils or medicated oils suitable for the individual’s condition and dosha (body constitution). These oils are often prepared with herbs known for their anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and muscle-relaxant properties.
Pouring of Warm Oil: The selected warm medicated oil is slowly poured into the reservoir created around the neck area. The oil should be comfortably warm to facilitate absorption and therapeutic effects.
Retention Period: The individual is instructed to remain still and relaxed while the warm oil remains within the reservoir. The duration of retention typically ranges from 20 to 30 minutes, although it may vary depending on the specific condition and the therapist’s recommendation.
Gentle Massage: During the retention period, the therapist may gently massage the neck area or apply mild pressure to specific points to enhance the therapeutic effects of the oil and promote relaxation.
Removal of Oil: After the designated retention period, the therapist carefully removes the reservoir and excess oil from the neck area using a clean cloth or cotton pads. Any residual oil is gently wiped away.
