Preparation: The process begins with the preparation of a special reservoir or cap (called “Vasti”) made from black gram dough or herbal paste. This cap is specifically crafted to fit securely onto the head, creating a sealed chamber to contain the medicated oil.
Selection of Oil: A medicated oil suitable for the individual’s condition and health needs is chosen. This oil is often prepared by infusing various herbs and Ayurvedic ingredients known for their therapeutic properties, tailored to address specific concerns related to the head and neurological system.
Heating the Oil: The selected medicated oil is gently heated to a comfortable temperature, ensuring that it remains warm throughout the duration of the treatment. The heating process helps to enhance the oil’s penetrative qualities and therapeutic effects.
Application of the Cap: The warmed medicated oil is poured into the prepared cap, which is then placed securely onto the individual’s head. The therapist ensures that the cap is sealed properly to prevent any leakage of the oil.
Retaining the Oil: Once the cap is in place, the individual remains in a relaxed position, allowing the medicated oil to penetrate deeply into the scalp and hair follicles. The duration of oil retention can vary depending on the individual’s condition and the therapist’s recommendations, typically ranging from 20 to 45 minutes.
Gentle Massage: During the oil retention period, the therapist may perform a gentle massage on the head, neck, and shoulders to enhance relaxation and promote the absorption of the medicated oil. This massage technique helps to stimulate circulation, soothe the nervous system, and alleviate tension.
Post-Treatment Care: After the specified duration, the cap is carefully removed, and any excess oil is gently wiped off. It’s advisable for the individual to rest for a short period to allow the effects of the treatment to fully integrate.
